Last Saturday, my friends and I trooped to Sofitel Philippine Plaza's Harbour Garden to watch one of my favorite acid jazz bands perform live in the recently concluded Philippine International Jazz & Arts Festival. It was March 2008 when I last watched a performance sponsored by the P.I. Jazz Fest folks and that was when I saw Incognito in the flesh. Since then, my friends and I have been keeping our ears open on the next set of bands which will grace us with their presence here in the Philippines. Good thing my eyes, my ears and my budget were wide open when I got an SMS from my friend that the Brand New Heavies will visit Manila.
I have been a BNH fan for as long as I can remember. I have most of their albums and like Incognito, I had some of their albums purchased from Japan because our music stores don't carry them. I think it was 5 years ago when a friend of mine who's into the music business told me that there have been negotiations of BNH coming over to MNL. But it never materialized til NOW!
Since I do not want to be late for the concert and do not want to suffer the Saturday traffic, I decided to check-in at Sofitel Philippine Plaza for an overnight stay. I checked in at 3pm and got myself the Classic Room with a king-sized bed and a view of the bay. I'll share with you the photos I took of my room on my next post. With what happened to me recently, it became very hard for me to get a decent sleep. I'd often wake up in the middle of the night with my heart beating furiously. I'd often only get 3-4 hours of sleep every single night with several interruptions as I always wake up for no reason at all. So it was actually a good move for me to spend the night in a hotel where I can feel safer, ergo, get my much needed sleep.
On the ticket, it was indicated that the concert will start at 6pm with 3 front acts namely SinoSiKat, Mishka Adams and the Thailand-based musicians, Jirapan. I was too beat to get myself ready at 6pm so I went to the Garden Harbour at 8pm only to find out that they started the front acts just 5 minutes ago. By close to 10pm, the crowd went wild as the stage lights went out. Finally, it was time.
