The other night, I came face to face with the newest hot item in the metro- Chic-Boy. Located along Jupiter Street in Makati City and just beside Strumm's, Chic-Boy stands for Chicken and Baboy. A subsidiary of Pier One Bar and Grill, Chic-Boy opened its doors to the hungry public last May 5, 2010. According to their lovely Marketing Manager, Cat Juan, they even bought their lechon recipes from Cebu to ensure quality taste and ultimate customer satisfaction.
Together with Manila Boy and the rest of my foodie friends, we were excited to try the dishes when we learned that Chic-Boy's specialties are their Cebu Lechon Liempo and Cebu Lechon Manok. For a time and even up to now, I still consider Cebu as my second home. I have been to several restaurants in Cebu and have eaten several of their bestsellers including lechon. And I can say that of all the lechons I've tasted here in Manila, nothing came close to what Cebu offers.
7pm came and so did Chic-Boy's version of their Cebu Lechon Liempo and Lechon Manok.
Cebu Lechon Liempo (whole)- Php155.00
Cebu Lechon Manok (whole)- Php210.00
The moment I laid my eyes on both the pork and the chicken, I had this feeling that new friendships will begin. And they surely did.
The liempo was excellent. It was flavorful, meaty and succulent. One bite of that pork goodness made me remember my pork-gorging days in Cebu. The crispy skin and the moist meat were enough to put a huge smile on my face. The chicken, on the other hand, was outstanding. It's one of the best-tasting lechon manok I've ever tasted. I am a dark meat fan and to my surprise, I was able to eat some breast parts of the chicken without forcing myself to chew the meat. The chicken was moist, juicy, well-seasoned and definitely delicious. It was so heavenly that my friend, Fritz, and I were both going gaga over the chicken.
I was happy and satisfied enough to taste both their specialties but of course, it wouldn't hurt to try other dishes on the menu.
Lechon Sisig (side serving)- Php65.00
Sinigang na Bangus- Php48.00 and Inihaw ng Talong- Php25.00
Sinigang na Baboy- Php48.00 and Sinigang na Salmon- Php49.00
2 Pieces Pork Barbeque with Rice- Php95.00
Even with all these food, we were able to squeeze in a couple of desserts.
Aside from the Cebu Lechon Liempo and Lechon Manok, my favorites amongst the many dishes I had were the Lechon Sisig, Sinigang na Salmon, Inihaw na Talong, Chicken Sisig and Turones con Leche. I must admit that apart from the lure of good-tasting food, Chic-Boy's meals are undoubtedly affordable. And it gets better because not only are they open 24/7, they also started serving San Miguel beer products (Light and Draft). Soon, they'll be coming up with merienda or snacks to make the eating experience more gastronomic.
As of now, they only have 1 branch which is located along Jupiter Street in Makati City. Pretty soon, they'll open more branches and franchise stores too. If you don't have the time to dine in their well-lit and spacious store, then don't forget to bring home some Cebu Lechon goodness with you.
I can pretty much say that Chic-Boy's Lechon Liempo and Manok made me miss Cebu's version less. Lechon made in Cebu is still the best for me, no doubt. But I'm happy to say that Chic-Boy's version is my 2nd best.
To Cat, thanks for the warm welcome. I'll be back soon!
