Taking a stroll along Rizal Boulevard was very refreshing. Inasmuch as we want to stay and enjoy the sea breeze, we know that we want to see more of what Dumaguete has to offer. Since we do not exactly know how to go about the city to see the sights, we got us a tour guide. Meet Kuya Elmer.
For an affordable rate of Php250.00, Kuya Elmer gladly took us around town. His tricycle was surprisingly spacious inside with ample area to put in our backpacks.
Our first stop was The Cathedral of St. Catherine of Alexandria along Percides Street. Built during the Spanish occupation, the cathedral is the largest church in the city. The church's facade was restored in 2005.
Just beside the cathedral is the Dumaguete Belfry Tower. A popular landmark in the city, the belfry was built in the 1760s to warn people of attacks from pirates. At the entrance, vendors are lined up selling different religious artifacts such as rosaries, pamphlets, incense, and candles amongst others.
Our next stop was the house of a certain practicing anesthesiologist named Dr. Rico Absin. Kuya Elmer told us that during Christmas, the whole house is adorned with lights. In addition, Dr. Absin throws a party every year for the less fortunate children in the city to share his blessings. When I saw Dr. Absin's house, I was in awe.
Amazing, isn't it?
Even though the sun was blazing hot on this beautiful day, we didn't mind the heat and went to our last destination in the city before we grabbed lunch. Stay tuned!
