BATANGAS BEACH FUN IN ACUATICO

A friend told me that the fresh breeze from the sea will do a lot for my asthmatic lungs.  Good thing we planned this weekend beach getaway, so I know that I am going to get myself a good dose of fresh air.

We decided to meet in Alabang and left the place around 10:30am.  I love road trips!

It took us almost 3 1/2 hours to reach the resort.  Had it not been for the many stops that we took, we could've reached Laiya within 2 to 2 1/2 hours.  The moment I set foot in Acuatico Beach Resort I instantly loved the place.

RED KIMONO'S ALL YOU CAN EAT FOR Php535

I know.  I haven't posted in days.  I got so hooked with watching TV that I'd oftentimes be too drained (read: super puyat) to go online.  After almost 2 years, I subscribed to cable TV again.  I never realized that I was THAT deprived until I saw the many shows and series on the telly.

Anyway, I am here now.  Back to normal programming.  So, let me tell you one of my many dining adventures.

Last week, my friend and I were craving for Japanese food.  Since we were at the Fort, we thought of dropping by Jozu Kin in Burgos Circle.  Unfortunately, the restaurant was filled with patrons so we decided to go to another restaurant instead.  That's when we remembered Red Kimono's All You Can Eat promo for Php535.00.

We eagerly drove to the Fort Strip.  As soon as we got inside Red Kimono, we were handed the buffet menu.  Everything on the menu is for their All You Can Eat promo.  You just need to order and wait for the food to be served.  But this promo comes with one condition.  Before you can avail of the buffet, you must order rice- plain or fried rice.  We got ourselves Chicken Fried Rice.

After checking the menu, we finally ordered.  Our food arrived after 10-minutes. They came in one after the other.

1ST TIME DINING: THE TERRACE AT 5TH

When Dyanie and I decided to meet for the first time, we intended to eat at The Terrace at 5th.  Too bad, the restaurant opens around 6pm.  We were an hour and a half early so we went someplace else instead.  Now that another opportunity for a get-together with friends presented itself, I took the liberty to reserve us a table in the restaurant.

I called them up twice- 10 days and 3 days before the date to confirm my reservation.  As with the usual SOP, I gave my mobile number so they can give me a ring if there will be problems with my reservation.

The date came and we trooped to The Terrace at 5th on a busy Friday night.  There wasn't any maître d’ when we got there so I called in a wait staff.  I asked for our reserved table and gave my name.  The wait staff came back and told me that there wasn't any reservation under my name.  I calmly told her that I called in twice to confirm so she checked it again.  She informed me that there really wasn't any reservation placed.  Maybe the manager saw my frustrated expression so she came up to me and asked what she could do for me.  I told her about the situation.  After checking their reservation log book, she apologetically told me that my name wasn't in the list.  So much for first impressions, eh?  I told her I needed a table and inasmuch as I want to take her apology, I'm afraid it won't do anything for me.  Fortunately, she was able to procure us a table, al fresco.

As we were studying the menu, they gave us their free appetizer- bread and butter.

We placed our orders shortly and the dishes arrived after 15 minutes.

GOING JAPANESE AT JOZU KIN

When a friend told me that a new Japanese restaurant opened in Burgos Circle at Fort Bonifacio, I quickly invited friends over to join me at Jozu Kin.  From my very limited knowledge of Nihonggo, I believe jozu means skillful.  With the name alone, I was curious to find out.

Burgos Circle is a fairly new place at the Fort.  It's a small place filled with different bars, restaurants and coffee shops.  If you're getting tired of the now-crowded Bonifacio High Street and wants to dine in a more quiet place, then this is the right venue for you.

As soon as I entered Jozu Kin, I instantly liked the dark interiors and the subdued lighting.  Simple but chic.  We were supposed to sit on the couch but there wasn't enough legroom so we opted to sit by the window.

They gave us a complimentary tea and a free appetizer while we were scanning the menu.

GELATISSIMO!

When I spent New Year of 2009 in Cebu City, I saw this gelato store at the Ayala Center.  Too bad my itinerary was full that time so I wasn't able to pay the store a visit.  Fortunately, I returned November of the same year and this time, I got to try the gelato everyone in Cebu is talking about.

Gelatissimo's award-winning gelato is Autralia's most popular gelato.  What I like about this gelato store is the fact that they change their selections every now and then.  They have such a wide variety of flavors to choose from- hazelnut, lemon, lime, coconut, vanilla, american chocolate, hawaiian coffee, profiterole, tiramisu, veronese chocolate, wild cherry amongst others.  Name it, they usually have it.

Since they have more than a dozen of flavors, they allow taste tests.  Just tell them what you like to try and they'll give you these plastic colorful spoons with the gelato flavor you want to sample.
