When a friend told me that a new Japanese restaurant opened in Burgos Circle at Fort Bonifacio, I quickly invited friends over to join me at Jozu Kin. From my very limited knowledge of Nihonggo, I believe jozu means skillful. With the name alone, I was curious to find out.
Burgos Circle is a fairly new place at the Fort. It's a small place filled with different bars, restaurants and coffee shops. If you're getting tired of the now-crowded Bonifacio High Street and wants to dine in a more quiet place, then this is the right venue for you.
As soon as I entered Jozu Kin, I instantly liked the dark interiors and the subdued lighting. Simple but chic. We were supposed to sit on the couch but there wasn't enough legroom so we opted to sit by the window.
They gave us a complimentary tea and a free appetizer while we were scanning the menu.
Maguro Sashimi was our first dish.
Followed by 2 types of gyoza.
Crisp Koumaru Gyoza- Php189.00 and Gyoza- Php189.00
The tuna sashimi was nice. I've tasted fresher sashimi in other restaurants. The food presentations were delighful. The dishes come in big plates similar to what we see in other fine dining places. As for the gyoza, the serving sizes didn't disappoint. Of course, Shinjuku's version still tops my list for the best gyoza. The others arrived after we finished this batch.
Seared Kajiki with Asparagus, Shiitake Mushroom and Apple Puree- Php322.00
The Kajiki or Pacific Blue Marlin was very fresh and meaty. For a second there, I thought I was eating chicken. The combination of the asparagus, the mushroom and the apple puree blended perfectly in my mouth. The Tori Teriyaki, on the other hand, was tender and was seasoned just right. As for the Chahan, I've tasted much better Japanese Fried Rice than Jozu Kin's version. The California Maki was very well presented and it was such a delight to eat.
All in all, it was a satisfying meal. The service was very good. The wait staff was attentive and took good care of us. I can say that for the ambiance, the food and the service, the dishes are reasonably priced.
