finally! after almost 3 months of not seeing each other, bespren and i met for dinner. since she wants to dine somewhere far from the usual Friday party scene, we decided to go to Greenbelt 5 and to Travel Cafe Philippines.
as soon as we entered, we were greeted by a wait staff. he led us to our table and handed us the menu.
the first thing i noticed as soon as i took my seat was the ceiling.
the menu consists of different Pinoy dishes and flavors that will give the diners a glimpse of Filipino food culture. i went for the Chicken Gingered Soup which was just a fancy name for Chicken Tinola.
and i was right! it was Chicken Tinola. the only thing that was different from the home-cooked Tinola was the fried ginger. otherwise, it wasn't something to rave about. since it was our first time to visit Travel Cafe Philippines, bespren and i ordered dishes that has the "Chef's Recommendation" stamped beside the name of the dish. she got herself the Aligue Pasta.
as we all know, crab fat has a strong taste and to give balance to its flavors, it's best to mix some lime juice or lemon juice with it. unfortunately with this dish, the pasta was soggy and the crab fat lacked that zing. it needs lemon juice, a pinch of salt and a dash of pepper to make the Aligue more enticing to eat. as for me, i ordered the Chicken Adobo.
i hate to say this but i've tasted better Chicken Adobo. it wasn't anything special.
overall, the food was okay, not anything to rave about. the prices of the food were a bit high considering the not-so-special taste of the dishes even if we ordered the "Chef's Recommendations". as for the cafe, the place itself was inviting enough to let you take a look on what's inside. they even have a Travel Concierge in case you feel like going away for a vacay and would want to book for flights, accommodations and tours. their service was good and their waiters were attentive as well as courteous.
if you wanna check out Travel Cafe Philippines, just go to Greenbelt 5. let me know how your dining experience was. *smile*
